Hi and welcome to the first edition of “Your Path to Your Dreams” this podcast about Motivation and Success
My name is Daniel Wood, i run the blog Looking To Business.com I write about Sales, personal development and what is required to succeed.

In this episode, and in future episodes, we will be studying what you need to be successful.
I will be intervjuing prominent figures in personal development and sharing my own views and personal experience.

The topic for today is goal setting.

Setting goals, knowing what you deem success, is the basis on what every success builds.
If you are to succeed, you need to know where you are going.

These 7 steps to goal setting will help you achieve anything you put your mind to.

Before you begin I want you to remember the importance of balancing your life. You need to set goals not only for your career and finances, but also health related and family goals.

The first step is:
1. You need to set long term goals in all 4 major areas of your life.
To do this, imagine your life as perfect, as if you already had the perfect family situation, were in perfect shape, had your dream career and had accomplished your financial goals.
Write down those long term goals.

2. Next move on to your short term goals.
A short term goal is like a milestone on your way to greatness; generally they are about 1 year down the line and help you follow your progress on your long term goals.
It is important that they in themselves are motivating. Short term goals is a great way to push yourself.

Write down your short term goals in each area of your life.

3. Deadlines
Set deadlines for each goal. By what date do you want to have completed your goals.
This is a crucial step.

Parkinsons law states that every task will always expand to fill the time alloted to it. Meaning if you set a deadline 2 years down the line, it will take 2 years to complete the goal. But if you don’t set a deadline it is like saying you have infinite time, which is therefore how long a time the goal will take to complete.

4. Measurable
It’s important that all your goals can be measured. You need to know when you have succeeded and how far you have gotten. For example don’t write “I want a lot of money” instead set an exact figure “I want to have 5 million dollars”.

5. Write your goals in the positive, present tense and add your deadline.
Write down your goals as if you had already completed them. In other words you should write “I have 5 million dollars” instead of “I want 5 million dollars” and then add the deadline. Meaning “I have 5 million dollars by the 31 of December 2014.”
This activates your subconscious mind to start pulling events and opportunities to you. It also helps you follow your progress and gives you a definite target.

6. Make plans for your goals completion
Write down how you plan on completing each goal.
For example:
“I have 5 million dollars by the 31 of December 2014. I have made this money by selling a company that does this and this and sells that. I will first start the company as a part time job until I have enough customers to move over full time, from there I will ….” and so on until you have a comprehensive plan for its completion.
Once this is done you have a definite plan of action.

Your plans aren’t set in stone though.
You will not get your plans right the first time.
You will fail, what is important is that you learn from your failure and use it to succeed.
To succeed you need to fail, there are lessons you need to learn. What is important is that you believe that you will succeed. The only thing that needs to be changed is your plan you have it in you do to whatever you want.
Each time you fail, go back to your plan, use the knowledge you have acquired from your mistakes and make a new plan to take action on.

7. Put the paper somewhere you will see it every day.*
Now that you have written all this down.
Tape the peice of paper to your bathroom mirror or put it beside your bed. What is important is that you read it every morning and evening.

Reading your goals every day and visualising their results is the key to success. You want to burn their image into your mind, push it into your subconscious and get your whole being working towards their completion.

By using this methodology you will put yourself on to the highway, the fast track to your success.
It is the method advised by both Napoleon Hill and Brian Tracy, it is used by most of the prominant figures in our society and will propell you to success.

Thank you for listening to the first episode of our podcast.
I hope to see you again and good luck, this was Daniel Wood of Looking To Business.com.
